Austin Featured Pet Shelter For December
The Georgetown Animal Services Department provides Animal Sheltering services and Animal Control for City of Georgetown residents. Services are only provided inside the city limits of Georgetown. The Shelter is open later on an irregular basis as staffing is available. Please ask about later/earlier hours if needed; we may be able to accommodate you. Adoptions : Most shelter pets make wonderful, loving additions to a family. We adopt out everything from purebred dogs and cats to mutts and mixed breeds of almost every shape and color imaginable. The application/screening process for potential adopters usually takes about 24 hours except when it falls over a weekend or holiday, and then it may take two or three days. If you are a senior citizen, please see the Senior-to-Senior Program on our website at http://georgetown.org/departments/animalservices for information on how to adopt a pet without charge. Education: Georgetown Animal Services also provides Humane Education and Bite Prevention to elementary school age children in Georgetown. Humane Education includes information about pet overpopulation It includes information about responsible pet ownership, and the needs of pets which must be met by their caretakers. Bite prevention education gives young children advice and techniques on how to avoid being bitten by dogs and cats, which could expose them to Rabies Virus.
