VCA Animal Hospital helps PHS adoptees

PHS is pleased to announce a new partnership with VCA Animal Hospitals! New cat and dog adopters now receive a complimentary wellness exam and 14-day follow-up care for many conditions at participating VCA Animal Hospitals. Details and limitations are specified during the adoption process. PHS wishes all adopters and their new pets a long and healthy life together.
 

Three PHS pups share a great home

There’s never a dull moment in Nancy Baisch’s house.  Three dogs adopted from PHS and one cat always keep things interesting.  It all started many years ago as Nancy explains, “I found my first dog, Betsy, at PHS on May 15th, 1998 when she was one year old. Betsy, my little old red dog, is now 14 and is still the love of my life.  I later found a stray dog, Bob, who was with me for 10 years. When Bob died, Betsy needed a companion, so I went back to PHS and adopted Wiley, a one year old shepherd mix. Wiley is just the sweetest dog in the world and she always makes me smile. When she had been with me for a couple of months, I noticed that she seemed to be having some vision problems. She was diagnosed with Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA), a rare hereditary form of blindness. I knew that she would need a long-term companion, and with Betsy getting old, I went back to PHS and adopted Daisy, a one year old chihuahua mix, to be Wiley's "seeing-eye chihuahua."  All three girls are best friends and get along with each other and with my cat, Joey, who also (strangely enough!) has PRA. 
 
“Wiley and Joey are now both completely blind, but you'd never know it unless you paid very close attention. Wiley loves to play fetch, and go on walks, and to chase her little sister Daisy, while Betsy sits in the shade and watches. Daisy is a typical chihuahua and thinks she's in charge, but she's also very sweet and cuddly.  I love my animal family so much. I know that Betsy won't be with us for much longer, and I'll be devastated when she dies, but I am comforted by knowing that she will have had a wonderful, happy life full of love for all of the years we were together. I will focus on the 13 years of love, joy, and happy memories. And when it's time, I'll be back at PHS to find my next best friend.”
